Countdown to Foam Expo North America 2018 begins

With just three months to go until Foam Expo returns to Novi, Michigan, taking place on March 6-8, 2018. Foam Expo unites manufacturers and buyers of technical foam materials, products, and services. End-user markets represented include automotive, aerospace, construction, packaging, medical, and sports and leisure. With a dense concentration of different technologies all under one roof, thousands of leads are generated.

The popular Product Showcase is back, featuring a series of 15-minute live product demonstrations at exhibitor booths. Participating companies include Netzsch, which will demonstrate the operation of its new heat flow meter for thermal conductivity of foams; Bruker Detection Corporation showcasing its Raid-M handheld chemical detector; and Unique Fabricating Inc, which will demonstrate a range of solutions comprised of multi-material foams, rubber, and plastic components for automotive and industrial applications. Companies including Midway, Edge Sweets, and Mactac LLC will also launch new products including: XT high performance rubber adhesive tapes from MacTac - deliver increased customized and versatility for construction fastener applications, long life deep rout rotary die from Midway – optimizing die design and web processes and the VPX 36-61 and a vertical CNC blade contour saw from Edge Sweets – ESCO’s patent-pending second generation of high-speed CNC vertical contour machines.

DOW, Chem-Trend, FXi, 3M, Lear Corp, Avery Dennison, Manufacturers Supplies Company, C3 Corp, Armacell, Frimo, Foam Supplies Inc, Grand Rapids Foam Technologies, and Foam Design are among historical attending companies. And next year is set to be bigger and better; 5,000+ attendees are expected alongside 300+ exhibitors. In fact, exhibitor space has long been sold out as companies invest in this industry-leading show.

Running alongside the exhibition is Foam Expo Conference comprising three days of focused discussion on the industry’s hottest topics. More than 60 high-caliber speakers are billed to take the stage in a packed program. On day one, Ford Motor Company’s Alper Kiziltas will address how consumer demand for sustainable sourcing continues to drive the adoption of bio-based materials by foam manufacturers, as well as the challenges associated with the complete replacement of petrochemicals in foam production. Kiziltas will look at the strategies available for optimizing bio-based and hybrid foam performance and explore what needs to be done to encourage greater uptake of bio-based materials.

Day two sees Sub-Zero Group’s Michael Spindler review the insulative and conductive properties of foams for thermal management applications. Areas to be discussed include end-user application development and material requirements, how to optimize insulation value and other thermal properties of foam, and the impact of the environment on foam performance, such as heat and humidity.

The pace continues into the third day of the conference, when Patricia McClarren from Adient examines the potential for foams to contribute to lightweighting efforts in the automotive sector. New regulations and changing legislation are driving many manufacturers to explore alternative, lighter materials to help meet emissions targets, and better fuel economy means cost savings for consumers.

Impressive footfall, new connections, and the opportunity to stay ahead of industry developments all contribute to Foam Expo’s popularity.
